FOSTER PARENTING"Our children have been born with all of the Gifts of the Ancestors to heal, to speak, to be leaders, to walk in the world to bring the change that everyone wants to see for peace and a more loving world. They are our new dreamers and visionaries, our prophets and leaders.” Diane Longboat, ElderIn order for our children to become our new prophets and leaders, they must grow up in loving homes that value and encourage our traditional teachings. When children of Aboriginal heritage are not able to live with their parents, we strive to find nurturing, safe and stable homes for them through our Foster Care program. While we believe it is best for children to live with their families, this is not always possible. When a family solution is not available, children come into foster care through Native Child and Family Services. Foster parents can provide substitute parenting when children cannot safely stay with their own families or when families need help during a crisis.
