PARENTS' RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Native Child and Family Services of Toronto must make a reasonable effort to notify you of all matters involving court. If the Family Court Judge decides that your child must remain in our care, we must notify you and allow you to take part in important decisions affecting your child.

While your child is in our care, you have the right to be informed about his or her progress. This will be done through regular contact with your Family Service Worker and through the plan of care and other meetings that may be arranged.

You will be informed of any major occurrence (such as a serious accident or illness or a change of placement) as soon as possible.

If your child is in care under a Temporary Care Agreement, you will be consulted about all assessments and treatments.

You have the right to seek independent legal counsel about any decisions made by NCFST.

You have the responsibility to follow through with any orders made by the court.

You have the right to have visits with your child according to the access agreements. You have the responsibility to inform your Family Service Worker ahead of time if you are unable to make a visit.

While your child is in our care, you should speak to your NCFST worker about anything you don’t understand, or if you have any questions or concerns.
