RESIDENTIAL CARE

In some cases, it may not be possible or appropriate to place children in foster homes. In these situations, children may be placed in a licensed residential care environment, in either a staffed group home or a parent-model residence.

Children and youth in residential care often face a variety of issues, such as developmental and physical challenges, medically fragile conditions, behaviour difficulties, psychiatric disorders, substance abuse problems or emotional trauma. Some live in residences for short periods of time and then return to their families, while others can live in a residential home until they reach adulthood.
